As a person working with technology myself designing web sites and maintaining systems, this article on MSNBC with a grim present and future for those of us in the technology field is frightening.
Unemployment among tech workers, once almost nonexistent, is now higher than the overall jobless rate for the first time in more than 30 years, according to an analysis of federal statistics by Ronil Hira, assistant professor of public policy at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Many well educated techies are now migrating from place to place following any jobs they can find. Even though there are jobs for technology gurus in the marketplace to fulfill, those jobs are usually just short term positions without any medical insurance nor other benefits. Many of us working in the technology field have a strong passion for what we do. It is a shame that more and more techies are forced to leave the jobs they love and jump to other industries in order to earn a living...and they are the lucky ones.
