If you have been watching the Olympics on NBC, I am sure you have seen a commercial that teases you with shots of a new car and then asks you to visit the web site: first-everg6.com. Well, I was curious to find out which manufacturer created this new car. I logged on and was disappointed to find out that the car is manufactured by Pontiac. Yes, I am very partial towards automobiles produced by the Germans and the Japanese. Most American cars have not been attractive nor reliable in the past twenty years. Well, let's stick to the topic at hand, the G6 by Pontiac. It is priced at the low $20,000 range. The 3.5L V6 engine cranks out 200 hp. Some comfort features include AM/FM stereo with CD player and Driver Information Center, remote keyless entry, telescopic steering, power windows, and programmable door locks. The exterior styling is not too bad. I gotta give Pontiac props for finally pushing out something that look decent. To me, it looks like Pontiac is trying to look like an Acura TL or TSX. I doubt Pontiac is trying its hands at the entry level luxury market which is dominated by BMW, Lexus, and Acura. At low $20,000, it is competing with Toyota Camry, Honda Accords, and Mazda's 3. I will admit that I do like G6's styling better than the Camry.
My favorite feature of this car is the sun roof which I must give Pontiac two very big thumbs up! However, I really hate the interior. The steering wheel design looks really bad. They should have used a three spoke steering wheel. The console buttons and layout looks badly placed and for the lack of a better word, UGLY. Will I even go and test drive this car? Probably not. It will be a long while until Pontiac redeems itself after relentlessly trying to push one of the ugliest autmobiles ever produced, the Aztec. I am going to include the picture below of this infamous vehicle which almost killed Pontiac. Well, at least Pontiac is heading for the right direction with the new G6.
