ETG Technologies will be releasing the OnePad at the next year's CES. The device will use Windows CE which is an OS for PocketPCs such as iPaqs. It has both integrated bluetooth and wi-fi capabilities to get on the web. In other words, it is very similar to my girlfriends robust PDA, an iPaq 4155, but with a 7" screen displaying at the resolution of 800 by 600.
When I was playing around with Trendy's iPaq, I really liked its ability to access almost any web sites on the web via wi-fi. But I thought the screen (perfect size for a PDA in terms of portability) was just too small to view contents. My laptop is usually very conveninent around the house for quick web doses, but it is too big and heavy. Although Sony's U50 is convenient, it is just too expensive and robust to obtain for just surfing around the web. The OnePad's targeted price is set at under $500 which is very attractive especially with its additional features such as the included 40 Gig harddrive and Voice IP capability. It is covenient with a screen that is not too big nor small. Windows CE starts up much faster than Windows which makes the OnePad quick and convenient. I think OnePad will start a new wave of "Pad" type devices for surfing the web on an existing wi-fi network. Awesome!
