New Wider Yahoo

Yahoo! reveals its new site design. Check out Yahoo's Preview here. From time to time until the official launch, you may see the new design by visiting Yahoo's main page. As you can see in the screenshots below, the layout design in the first picture (new Yahoo) is much wider than the layout design in the second picture (old Yahoo). It seems that Yahoo has decided to lead the way to abandon being 800X600 resolution compliant. However, the latest static shows that there are still 20% of Internet users browsing on 800X600 screens — for those 20%, it is time to ditch that ugly 15" CRT and upgrade to a slim 20" widescreen LCD. This is a bold move on Yahoo's part as it is the number one most visited site in the world. Personally, I love it. It is time to abandon 800X600. Many sites today (including mine) looks small and empty on high resolution displays because these sites are designed to accommodate the 800X600 users. We have ditched the 640X480 years ago, and it is time to upgrade again. Screens are bigger today in both resolution and physical size. The prices for higher resolution monitors are much cheaper now. The new Yahoo also utilizes Web 2.0 technologies to make the site more efficient and to enhance user interaction. Web 2.0 is another area that is about to transform the web as a whole with sites such as Digg, Flickr, and TechCrunch leading the way. As much as I do dislike Yahoo for its badly managed web hosting customer service, I must say, "Good job Yahoo! The new design looks great."
