Section: Snapshots Santa Catalina Island is located 22 miles from the coast of Los Angeles. It takes about an hour and 45 minutes to get there by ferry from Marina Del Rey. The island itself is 22 miles long and 8 miles across. We visited the largest city on the island, Avalon.
