Remember the times when you were a teenager? Of course, we all have been teenagers trying to define our identities in the grown-up world and desparately wanting respect and be treated as adults. Now looking back, I thought things I have done and thought as a teenager myself were foolish. The life of a teenager as the film truthfully tells and portrays is filled with confusion, needs for attention, and peer pressure. As time changes, the environment a teenager has to deal with today is certainly alien to most of us adults today. I can assure you that today's teenagers will be just as dumbfounded about the teenagers of tomorrow.
Thirteen is a wonderful film peeking into the world of today's teenagers, more specifically, two thirteen year old girls. I loved the contrast, brightness, and the color of the film, very well done and appropriate for the story. The cast was amazing. Holly Hunter as Melanie Freeland(mom), Evan Rachel Wood as Tracy Louise Freeland (the daughter), and Nikki Reed as Evie Zamora (friend) performed flawlessly. This film can be quite disturbing and even scary. I recommend renting this movie.

Rating: 7.9 out of 10
