The Day After Tomorrow demonstrates the chilling scenario of what may happen due to ill effects of global warming created by mankind. Although the story seems exaggerated showing the coming of an ice age within days of linked disastrous events, the idea of our lack of efforts to avoid the very possible future cannot be ignored. Nevertheless, The Day After Tomorrow is entertaining.
This movie is directed by Roland Emmerich who also brought us Independence Day in 1996. Emmerich presented The Day After Tomorrow in a format very similar to Independence Day by replacing aliens with natural disasters--perhaps it is more appropriate to use the word "unnatural"-- as the enemies. There are many shots in the movie that will remind you of Independence Day. The special effects in the movie are amazing. Although this movie is not spectacular overall, The Day After Tomorrow is definitely worth the rental. It will certainly provide great entertainment for a couple of hours.
