The Sony MDR-RF960RK is a set of wireless headphones using the 900 MHz frequency. It uses rechargeable NiMH batteries. The unit recharges when it is placed on the base unit which also acts as the transmitter. The range of the unit is up to 150 feet. The specifications of the Sony Wireless Headphones seem very solid when compared to others. The cost of Sony MDR-RF960RK is $100. Hooking up the unit was a snap. I simply plugged it in and connected the included Y-Adapter into my TV's headphone jack. The headphones fit comfortably on my head. Everything seems to be perfect so far until I switched on the unit.

Sony MDR-RF960RK's transmitter and receiver was weak. My Wi-Fi network and 2.4 GHz telephone system disrupted the headphones constantly. I tried walking around the apartment and things never improved. The 900 MHz frequency, limited by its range, cannot separate itself from other air waves bouncing around even with 3 different channels. The Sony Wireless Headphones is a well-designed and comfortable product that is useless.

I returned the wireless headphones and bought a headphone jack extension cable for $10 to extend the range my normal set of wired headphones. Now, I hear sound and music clearly with a 25 ft. cable attached to my head.

Rating: 2 out of 10.
