The other day, I went to Best Buy to check out some new gadgets out on the market. When I went to the digital camera section, I immediately noticed the new DSC-P100 camera by Sony. It is a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens. The dimension of the camera is very similar to my P8; however, it is about half as thin as my camera. That is very amazing. The camera is easy to hold despite the smaller size. The one major improvement for the P100 is its fast powering up speed. As soon as you press the power button, the camera's lens literally pops out and is ready to shoot. I was very impressed. I kept on turning it off and on. I cannot believe how fast the DSC-P100 can extend the lens so quickly. According to Steve's Digicams Review, it takes 1.6 seconds for the camera to go from OFF to ready-to-shoot. That is fast!
I did not get a chance to test the quality of the pictures because I forgot to bring my memory stick with me. From other reputable reviews, they did give the P100 high notes on picture quality. I did test the shutter speed which is very fast as well. The camera is ready to shoot immediately after you press the shutter button.
The only thing I did not like about the camera is the new plastic material used to make the setting dial. It felt cheap and fragile which is a disappointment. Even so, I wish they had the P100 a year ago because it is priced at $399 which is the same as my P8 back then.

If you are searching for a great 5 mega-pixel camera that is small with a ton of features, I certainly recommend checking out the P100.
