The HP PSC Photosmart 2610 All-in-One is a printer, fax, scanner, and copier. It has a built-in print server for networking using a wired ethernet cable. I purchased this muti-function device from Sam's Club for $264 for business. Running to Kinko's to make copies and faxing documents on a daily basis started to become annoying, time wasting and costly. I am fairly impressed with the capabilities of HP 2610 from the hardware perspective. The device performs well for each of its functions.
However, HP supplmented the hardware with terrible software. The software installation took at least 45 minutes. After installation, the software is unstable even after spending another 15 - 20 minutes updating it with the latest "fixes". The problem I encounted the most is its "transfer images" function from the meomory card slots to a computer via the network. It simply did not work and crashes the receiving computer. I had to resort to transferring files via the network drive which was also glitchy.
Despite its software flaws, I am going to keep HP 2610 for its hardware functions. At least I was able to add the printer to my network quickly. Besides, I got this printer mainly for its copying, faxing, and networking capabilities which can all be accomplished without using HP's software. I hope that the company will hire better programmers and provide updates that will truly assist users in operating the printer intead of crshing computers and frustrating customers.
Rating: 6.5 out of 10 (major deductions for software)
