One of this summer's blockbuster is a prequel and the other is a remake. From experience and history, we can almost expect both prequels and remakes to disappoint due to high expectations.
Let's first start with Batman Begins, the prequel. I saw this movie in an IMAX theater. Batman Begins exceeded beyond my high expectations. It is the best Batman movie produced to date. I love the story, the cinematography, action sequences, and special effects. It is definitely a must-see! If there is an IMAX theater near you, I strongly recommend paying the extra few bucks to enhance the total experience.
War of the Worlds is a remake. Despite what you may think of Tom Cruise's recent bizarre behavior in real life, you still must see War of the Worlds on the big screen. It is one intense ride! The action begins shortly after 5 -10 minutes into the film and intensifies till the end. In other words, the movie is always in a climax reaching for the next one. Just when you think you can relax, it hits you even harder. You will be on the edge of your seat the entire time. I wish Spielberg had formatted War of the Worlds for IMAX. It would be insanely wild to watch this movie in an IMAX theater. War of the Worlds will certainly become the ultimate DVD demo disc for home theaters.
These two movies are not just a remake and a prequel. They are unique and original. In many ways, both of these movies are much better than their predecessors.
Batman Begins: 9.7 out of 10
War of the Worlds: 9.6 out of 10
