After test riding numerous hybrid and cross bicycles, I decided to go with a Specialized Sirrus. Other bikes I tested included the Cannondale Road Warrior 4, Specialized Crosstrail, Trek 7.5, and Specialized Globe. It came down to Cannondale Road Warrior 4 and Specialized Sirrus which felt the best for me. I decided to go with Specialized Sirrus because I have always been a fan of Specialized products. And the bike shop gave us a discount because we also purchased a Globe for Trendy.
Up until now, I have always had mountain bikes. I have been riding mountain bikes for over 15 years. After moving to the city, I have been riding on pavement for about 85% of the time with occasional rides on fire roads. Finally, I decided to get a bike that is better suited for the road. With my mountain biking background, I felt that a flat bar road bike will be an easier and better transition for me. And a flat bar feels more comfortable for recreational riding.
Specialized Sirrus is a very fast bike with a decent price of $590. Although the components are not top notch, they are perfectly fine for the type of riding I will be doing. So far from the riding I have done on the new bike, I am very satisfied. The bike is light, rigid, and well built. I added end bars for more hand positions during longer rides. If you are looking for a bike of this type, I definitely strongly recommend a Specialized Sirrus. It a great commuter and recreational touring bike.
