Mobile Access

I added the unlimited data access plan offered by Cingular on my Nokia 7610. Mobile Internet access has improved so much since the days of my retired Palm VIIx. My Nokia can retrieve my E-Mails with its built-in messaging software and access any web sites using the Opera mobile browser. Although my Nokia can retrieve information, it was challenging for me to reply to E-Mails quickly and efficiently using the number keypad. After using the Nokia for a few days, I quickly realized that I have to add a handheld device to my arsenal to speed up data input. My friend Mark, after upgrading to a Treo, decided to give me his Tungsten T so that I may connect to the Internet by linking to my cell phone's GPRS via Bluetooth. Mark is always on the cutting edge of mobile technology. Thanks Mark.

After receiving the handheld from Mark in the mail, I immediately tried to link Tungsten T to my Nokia 7610 via Bluetooth. Sadly, I failed to establish a stable connection between the two devices despite all my efforts of trying almost everything that everyone had suggested on the Internet. Days later, I concluded that incompatible driver issue was the main cause of my frustration . Determined to get Tungsten T working, I dusted off my Sony Ericsson T68i. Well, the two paired quickly and flawlessly via Bluetooth. I was relieved.

I switched the data plan from my main line to another sim card on my family plan to dedicate its use as data access via Sony Ericsson T68i. I decided to keep Nokia 7610 as my main phone because I love its 1.3 megapixel camera. Having separate devices for voice and data turns out to be a great setup. I can talk on a phone and access the web at the same time.

You may be asking, "Why does anyone need mobile Internet access?" For many, it is almost impossible to gain access to personal E-Mails and various web sites from the workplace via heavily monitored and filtered connections of proxy servers. Mobile Internet access frees you! I enjoy the ability to check prices, reviews, and directions from anywhere. Having any type of Internet access is never a necessity; however, it is a major convenience. Guess what? I am blogging this entry using my mobile devices.
