Microsoft's Halo 2 for the XBox made a stunning debut this past Tuesday. On the day of release, fans snatched up 2.38 million copies with a staggering sales value of $125 million. In just 24 hours Halo 2 crushed the first full week sales records set by any major Hollywood blockbusters. This is gaming history. This is entertainment history. Even Julia Roberts enjoys playing Halo.
Strangely enough, Halo 2 did not interest the Japanese at all according to this article on SPOnG.com. Perhaps the Japanese hate Microsoft, XBox, FPS (first person shooters) games, or all of the above. Regardless of what Japanese gamers may think or not think of Halo 2, I am sure Sony and Nintendo are both keeping a very close watch as Microsoft slowly takes over the gaming market in the States. It is damn hard to compete against a company with cash to burn and massive returns on investment from just one game in just one day.
