CNN Predicts $500 PS3

CNN predicts that the price of PS3 will be $500 at launch time. What? Only $500? The PS3 is expected to ship with Sony's new Blu-Ray drive. Recently, Pioneer announced at CES that its standalone Blu-Ray player will be priced at $1,800. Is Pioneer attempting to make a HUGE profit or does the $500 price prediction for the PS3 seem impossible? How can Sony include a $1,800 drive in a gaming console and take a loss of $1,300? There is just no way. Personally I predict that Sony will release a bare bones gaming console for $500 without Blu-Ray, without a hard drive, and without extra or any controllers. To get all the goodies for the PS3, the price of a nicely packaged PS3 should cost at least $1,000. There's my two cents. I just cannot imagine Sony taking a mega loss (over $1,000) for each PS3 by including Blu-Ray. Well, something definitely does not add up. $1,800 for a Blu-Ray standalone player and $500 for a Blu-Ray gaming console. Someone is doomed to lose and it is probably going to be Blu-Ray.
