Trendy, Rachel, Jason, and I participated in this year's LA River Ride. Trendy and Rachel rode for 50 miles. Jason and I attempted our first century ride, 100 miles. The route started from Griffith Park and took us down to Long Beach, Seal Beach, and then back to the Park. On our way down, Jason and I averaged almost 19 mph for the first 45 miles with a pace line. After taking a break at the pit stop, we slowly pedaled our way back. The 100 mile ride took us almost 7 hours including all the breaks and stops. It was challenging and rewarding. It was awesome to see many different parts of Los Angeles along the route.

Steven, Jacqueline, Jason, Rachel, Trendy, and I went to Park City this past weekend. This was my first time in Park City, UT. We got dumped with a ton of snow. It also just happened to be the first weekend for the Sundance Festival. We only spotted a few stars on the streets and at the airports probably because the weather was not ideal. Park City is a great resort with a variety of runs. I also loved the free bus transits that took us all over the place.

We visited both Northstar and Alpine Meadows in the four days we were up there. I enjoyed skiing at Alpine Meadows more because it was more secluded. The snow was excellent up at Lake Tahoe. You really cannot go wrong at any of the ski resorts. We originally were going to visit Squaw. It is a very popular destination so we decided to skip the crowd this time around.

Trendy and I finally took a late honeymoon to Maui. It was beautiful there. We snorkeled daily and swam with a few sea turtles. We hiked and saw a 400 foot waterfall. One of my favorites from the trip was seeing the sunset above the clouds from Haleakala crater. It was majestic.

After talking about getting the M1 on the license in the past 10+ years, I finally followed through, took the basic rider course, and passed the DMV written test. I got the new Yamaha FZ6R as my first bike. It has a 600cc engine. I chose this bike because it has a more upright (comfortable) position while remaining sporty enough to handle the twisty roads. The FZ6R is also a great bike for beginners. It is a versatile bike with plenty of power for a rider who wants to take the bike on long trips, cutting curves, or simply commute. I compared the Yamaha to Kawasaki's ERN6, and I considered the Ducati Monster as well.

During the day, the temperature reached over 115 degrees, and it only cooled down to about 90 - 95 at night. Despite the heat, we had a great weekend hanging out by the pool, eating tasty food, smoking a cigar at a lounge, losing $80 playing craps, and shopping at the outlet.

Trendy and I spent Fourth of July weekend up north in the Bay Area with Jacqueline and Steven. Four of us, Daniel and his wife, Quyen, drove up to Tomales Bay for some fresh oysters straight from the farms. We took a short hike after lunch. We then went to PPQ in San Francisco for crabs. On our way home, we saw fireworks along the highway from the city of Mountain View and Palo Alto. And we finished the night by smoking cigars around a fire pit at Daniel's place. It was a good day.
